Adobe Captivate is one of the most popular eLearning development tools in the world. As your class begins, you’ll get comfortable with the Captivate interface by exploring an existing Captivate project. You’ll learn to use the Filmstrip, explore the inspectors, and poke around other areas of the Captivate interface. After exploring a bit, it’s time to roll-up your sleeves and get to work. You’ll create a soft skills eLearning lesson from scratch (soft skills eLearning includes, but is not limited to,  onboarding, conflict resolution, and compliance training). You’ll work with themes, add slides, work with placeholders to add text and images. You’ll even add interactive buttons that will allow the learner to control the pace of the lesson. 

Once you’re comfortable creating projects, tap into Captivate’s powerful recording features and create both software demonstrations and interactive software simulations. And you’ll leverage Captivate’s multi-mode recording features to record three lessons at the same time (one demo and two simulations). All that… and before the lunch break! 

Come back from lunch and you’re back at it… you’ll learn to add, modify, and control the timing of objects such as text captions, images, and highlight boxes. You’ll learn to record, import and edit audio, and how to further enhance the learner experience by adding interactivity via click boxes, buttons, and text entry boxes. 

Engage your learner by adding rollover captions, rollover images, rollover slidelets, zoom areas, quizzes, and knowledge checks to a project. And you’ll leverage and enrich existing Microsoft PowerPoint presentations by importing them into Captivate. 

Finally, you’ll learn how to distribute a finished Captivate project to the widest possible audience by publishing SWF, HTML5, and PDFs so that your content can be consumed by learners on virtually any device including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smart phones.

**The current version of Captivate that we offer for our public classes is Adobe Captivate 2017. Captivate 9 & 8 users are welcome and encouraged to attend. While we are no longer offering public courses for legacy versions of Adobe Captivate, you can elect for private training in any legacy version (contact us for details at 888.812.4827). If you are using an older version of Captivate, you are welcome and encouraged to attend this Captivate 2017 course. Our instructors will be happy to point out differences between the software versions throughout the course. To attend this Captivate class, all you’ll need to do is download the free trial version of Captivate and we will send you our version 2017 workbook. If you would prefer a legacy version of the workbook, it is available upon request in either a free digital version or in hardcopy format for 50% off the retail price.**

This is a live, online class led by a field expert; and just like an in-person class, it is fully interactive and engaging. The difference between an online and onsite classs? No travel! You can participate from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. Many of our students choose to stay home from work on these training days, some never even changing out of their slippers! Where applicable, students are able to speak with and hear from the instructor and other participants throughout the course as they work in real-time to complete activities.

About Your Instructors

Kevin Siegelis the founder and president of IconLogic, Inc. He has written hundreds of step-by-step computer training books on applications such as Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, Adobe RoboHelp, Adobe Presenter, Adobe Technical Communication Suite, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Office, Microsoft PowerPoint, QuarkXPress, and TechSmith Camtasia.

Kevin spent five years in the U.S. Coast Guard as an award-winning photojournalist and has three decades experience as a print publisher, technical writer, instructional designer, and eLearning developer. He is a certified technical trainer, a veteran classroom instructor, and a frequent speaker at trade shows and conventions.

Kevin holds multiple certifications from companies such as Adobe, CompTIA, and the International Council for Certified Online Training Professionals (ICCOTP) as a Certified Online Training Professional (COTP).

Matt Sullivan

Matt Sullivan is certified in all Adobe Technical Communication products. His certifications include Captivate, FrameMaker, RoboHelp, Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, Presenter, and Connect. Matt specializes in helping groups and individuals improve their technical communication and electronic publishing workflow. His 25 years of software and publishing experience allow him to bring best practices and integration concepts into every engagement.

Matt regularly represents Adobe at conferences, and also presents at national conferences like the Society for Technical Communication, LavaCon, and Writers U/A. He is also the co-author of Publishing Fundamentals: Unstructured FrameMaker 11, regarded as one of the best FrameMaker reference books available.

Lori Smith

Lori Smith is IconLogic's lead programmer and Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) in Captivate. Lori has a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from MIT as well as a Master’s in electrical engineering from George Mason University.  She has been working in the field of software engineering for more than 20 years.   During that time she worked on embedded software systems at Raytheon (E-Systems) and ARINC.

 Jennie Ruby

Jennie Ruby is a veteran IconLogic trainer and author of Editing with Word 2007. Jennie specializes in electronic editing. At the American Psychological Association, she was manager of electronic publishing and manager of technical editing and journal production.

Jennie has an M.A. from George Washington University and is a Certified Technical Trainer (Chauncey Group). She is a publishing professional with 20 years of experience in writing, editing and desktop publishing.

Anita Horsley 

Anita Horsley is a certified Adobe Captivate Instructor and an Adobe Certified Expert. She is the Manager of the Adobe eLearning User Group for North and South Carolina. She also holds a Masters degree in Education and is an author for Packt Publishing.

Anita is the owner of Calex Learning Consultants, providing consulting and contracting services for teaching captivate and developing eLearning worldwide. Anita often presents online webinars for Adobe and other agencies such as ASTD. She frequently represents Adobe at conferences on eLearning and Adobe Captivate topics. She is a technical reviewer for Packt Publishing and Adobe Systems. Anita has been working in the adult education field since 2001 and in eLearning since 2009.  

Anita spent 14 years in the fire service as an award winning firefighter; additionally she initiated and implemented the eLearning track for the State Fire Prevention program. Anita believes in giving back and thus currently volunteers at the Charleston Animal Society teaching elementary children about the humane treatment of animals. For adult learners, she writes a blog and produces videos on tips, tricks, and tutorials on Adobe Captivate.
