Overtime Policy

No overtime may be worked without the approval of your direct supervisor.

Overtime will be paid to all hourly employees for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a 1-week timeframe. Overtime will be paid at the rate of time and one-half your regular rate of pay.

Salaried employees are expected to work the hours necessary to accomplish their duties. Compensatory time may be offered to salaried employees. The purpose of compensatory time is not to provide additional vacation or leave time. It is provided to alleviate the short-term stress resulting from working additional hours. Compensatory time should not be charged for such things as professional reading or outside professional meetings. Your department manager will determine, based on overtime worked, the appropriate and applicable amount of compensatory time.

Accrued compensatory time must be taken within two pay periods after accruing it or it will be forfeited.

An "Authorization for Employee's Earned Compensatory Time" request must be completed and signed prior to taking compensatory time in excess of 8 hours. Request forms are available in Human Resources.

Vacation hours, administrative leave hours, and holidays are not considered when computing overtime.

Leave hours of any kind will not be accrued on any overtime hours.
