Workshop: Converting Courses for Online Delivery

Bring your content to class and we'll help you fix it in real time.

For teachers at all levels: Elementary through adult learners. We are suddenly faced with doing our jobs online, instead of in our classrooms.

Making the conversion from teaching in a classroom to teaching online is not a seamless operation. Many aspects of the class need to change, including course handouts, learning activities, and even your own communication style.

In this interactive workshop, you’ll learn how to make the conversion. Starting with an existing classroom class, you’ll evaluate the course content, visuals, and, most importantly, classroom learning activities to discover what needs to change. Everything you might do in the classroom has its parallel in the online classroom. Discovering what those parallels are and how to make them effective takes some work.

Bring your classroom content to discuss and to work on—leave the workshop with at least a good start on converting it for online use.

Where is this class held?

This is a live, online class led by an experienced eLearning developer. Just like an in-person class, it is fully interactive and engaging. The difference between an online and onsite class? No travel! You can participate from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. Many of our students choose to stay home from work on these training days, some never even changing out of their slippers! Where applicable, students are able to speak with and hear from the instructor and other participants throughout the course as they work in real-time to complete activities.

Need something a little more personal?

We understand your team might have specific training needs and we would love to work with you. We offer online instructor-led, fully customizeable courses tailored to your needs.

Handouts-before, during, and after

Every class has handouts, and possibly a course book or text book. How do you distribute those for the online classroom? We will explore eBooks, secured and unsecured PDFs, Word docs, and slide-based handouts. You will also learn options for when and how to distribute handouts, depending on their length and how they are used in the class.

PowerPoint Slides—Are Yours Ready for Online?

We will briefly review some of the basic concepts that are covered more fully in our PowerPoint for Online Presentations class. Principally: how can you reinforce learning through supplemental visuals?

Learning Activities

Maybe you’ve been running effective classes in person for years, and have favorite exercises, warm-ups, and routines you have learners perform. How do you recreate these activities online? And should you? We will address these areas and more:

  • Lecture/Content delivery
  • Group discussions
  • Small group work
  • Individual work
  • Feedback
  • Brainstorming

Engaging the Online Learner

In addition to classroom activities for the learners, you have your own classroom methods: Walking around the room, meeting people’s eyes, hovering near disruptive or disengaged students to regain attention…the list goes on. But how do you keep learners engaged online? You will learn about the following and more:

  • Overhead questions
  • “Name calling”
  • Informal and formal polls
  • Informal and formal quizzes
  • Screen sharing
  • Write on my slide
  • Shared whiteboards
  • Timers, bells, and whistles

Loved it [Captivate Variables and Actions 101]. Not only did Lori [Smith] teach us, but she related everything to real world scenarios which made everything relevant.
