Excel Advanced Function Training: IF and VLOOKUP Functions

In this Excel advanced function training you'll learn about two common advanced Excel Functions--the IF and the VLOOKUP functions. The IF function allows you to create a condition and have Excel evaluate whether a statement is true or false and then perform some action (entering text or performing a calculation, for example) depending on the result. The VLOOKUP function stands for vertical lookup and can be used to have Excel look up data in a large table and return information back to you.

Who should attend this class?

Intermediate to Advanced users of any version of Excel. Knowledge of basic formulas and functions is necessary, as well as an understanding of relative and absolute references. Hands on exercises are used.

Where is this class held?

This is a live, online class led by a field expert; and just like an in-person class, it is fully interactive and engaging. The difference between an online and onsite class? No travel! You can participate from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. Many of our students choose to stay home from work on these training days, some never even changing out of their slippers! Where applicable, students are able to speak with and hear from the instructor and other participants throughout the course as they work in real-time to complete activities.

Anyone who wants to learn more about the formatting of a website. All you need is a basic text editor such as Notepad (PC) or TextEdit (Mac) and a browser. Knowledge of basic HTML codes is mandatory.

Topics covered include, but not limited to:

  • The IF Function

We will discuss the basic IF function, and then expand into nested IF functions, including adding AND/OR criteria.

  • Related IF Functions

Related to the basic IF function are functions like SUMIF and SUMIFS. We will cover both of these functions which allow you to sum numbers based on one, or even multiple, criteria.

  • VLOOKUP

The VLOOKUP function will save you lots of time by automatically pulling information from long lists. For example, the VLOOKUP function will allow you to enter an account number and Excel will pull a person’s last name for you.
