Access 2016 Introduction to Relational Databases

Access is a relational database which allows you to store, query, and create reports on data. In this brief 3-hour introduction to relational databases, we will cover the basics of getting started creating an Access database, creating and linking tables together, and customizing fields. We will also learn how to add, edit, find, and delete records.

Who Should Attend?

This class is for beginner Access users-either those who are using a database that is already created or those who will have to create their own. We will cover the theory behind relational databases and help you understand how to organize and link Access tables together. End users of a database can enhance their usage of Access by understanding this foundation, but a large amount of time will also be spent on end-user type tasks such as working with records.

Topics covered include, but not limited to:

  • Relational Databases

You will learn a brief overview of relational databases, including best practices, vocabulary, and types of relationships

  • Work with Records

Learn how to add, edit, find, and delete records. Time will also be spent on sorting, filtering, and freezing columns.

  • Creating Tables and Fields

Learn about the different kinds of fields and their properties and create tables to store data.

  • Relationships

One of the main advantages of a relational database is being able to link tables together. Learn about the 3 kinds of relationships and how to link tables together for future use in queries, forms, and reports.
