Adobe InDesign advanced training--live and online!
Adobe InDesign is a tool for design and layout that allows you to produce high quality, professional documents for print and on-screen display. The Adobe InDesign advanced training class focuses on streamlining your workflow so that you can get your publication to the printer in a timely manner and work smarter, not harder. This class is fully interactive, as you will be able to speak with and hear from the instructor and other students as you work in real time to complete activities within the software.
Note: While not a requirement, some students find it helpful to attend this class using two computer monitors. This will allow for one screen to always display the instructor's screen, and the other for you to use as you follow along with the instructor.
Where is this class held?
This is a live, online class led by a field expert; and just like an in-person class, it is fully interactive and engaging. The difference between an online and onsite class? No travel! You can participate from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. Many of our students choose to stay home from work on these training days, some never even changing out of their slippers! Where applicable, students are able to speak with and hear from the instructor and other participants throughout the course as they work in real-time to complete activities.

Here's What is Covered
Working with Typography
Advanced typography controls are covered, including baseline alignment across multiple columns, glyphs, drop caps, spacing controls, tracking & kerning controls, setting tabs, attaching rules to paragraphs.
Working with Styles
We review the use of paragraph and character styles, plus how to nest character styles within a paragraph style, and learn how to define and apply object styles, table styles and cell styles.
Importing and Modifying Graphics
Learn how to make the new Links panel work for you, plus how to get the most from your Illustrator and Photoshop files after they are placed into your InDesign layout.
Creating Tables
Import an Excel spreadsheet and control the formatting with table and cell styles.
Output and Exporting
Learn how to use the Preflight and Package commands while preparing files to send out for commercial printing. Creating PDF documents is also covered.
Note: The lessons outlined above comprise activities typically covered in a class of this skill level. The instructor may, at the instructor's discretion, alter the lesson plan to meet the needs of the class.
About Your Instructor
Barbara Binder started in the publishing field in 1986 with PageMaker's first release for Windows. She has been delivering corporate training as a free-lance instructor since 1987, mostly in the Washington, D.C area. In 2005, she moved to the foothills west of Denver to escape the congestion and the craziness of life "inside the Beltway."
In addition to being the owner of Rocky Mountain Training near Denver, Colorado, Barb holds current Adobe certifications on Adobe FrameMaker, InDesign, PhotoShop and InCopy. As an Adobe Certified Instructor with more than 20 years of classroom experience, she is ready to deliver the training needed to help you improve your publishing workflow.
