Expressions are typically used in Captivate to perform complex mathematical equations (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction). However, you can also use expressions to link strings of actions together.

Attend this 3-hour class and you'll learn to use expressions and variables in Captivate to get specific results you want. In this course you will be using student files to learn how to use expressions and variables for excluding slides from total slide count, adding mathematical equations from slide to slide, adding multiple numbers within a matrix, checking a minimum number out of a maximum number, and incrementing separate quiz grading within the same course.

Note: This class is very interactive; exercise files will be provided for Captivate 9 or newer. If you are using previous versions of captivate you can attend the class but exercise files will not be provided. A trial version of Captivate is fine and can be downloaded from www.adobe.com

Before attending this class, you need to take Actions and Variables 101, 201, and 301 or have similar experience. Click here to view the course content for Actions and Variables 101. Where is this class held?

This is a live, online class led by a field expert; and just like an in-person class, it is fully interactive and engaging. The difference between an online and onsite class? No travel! You can participate from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. Many of our students choose to stay home from work on these training days, some never even changing out of their slippers! Where applicable, students are able to speak with and hear from the instructor and other participants throughout the course as they work in real-time to complete activities.

Need something a little more personal?

We understand your team might have specific training needs and we would love to work with you. We offer both online and on-site instructor-led, fully customizable courses tailored to your training needs.

Topics covered will include some of the following:

  • System Variables

System Variables are predefined variables that come with Captivate when you buy the license. System variables help you pick up data to help you control what is visible to the user; to display information in other files such as the current slide; to manipulate information from the learner’s computer; and to display quiz information.

  • User Variables

User variables are created by you, the developer, and are captured when the learner clicks or types something such as in a text entry box or click box to create a specific outcome.

  • Conditional Actions

If you intend to build complex interactions or create games in Captivate, conditional actions are the way to go. Conditional actions allow you to create different actions for specific situations. For instance, during this class you will create a custom menu. Your learners must view all of the lessons before they can move on.

  • Expressions

Expressions are typically used in Captivate to perform complex mathematical equations (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction). However, you can also use expressions to linkstrings of actions together.

  • Shared Actions

If you’ve created custom actions in your project, it is possible to share them within the same course or export to other courses. You will learn how to do that during this portion of the class.
