Captivate 5.5 Specific Issues

  • If you would like to learn about the new features specific to Captivate 5.5, please check out our BLOG for step-by-step instructions for using the new features (with appropriate screen shots). There is some cool stuff in version 5.5 including the ability to rotate objects, improved quiz formatting and templates, the ability to publish directly to YouTube and support for the Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod.

Step 1. Say goodbye to the Position & Size group. Since you can now change the Angle of any selected object, Adobe changed the name of the Position & Size group to Transform.

Windows users: Step 6 instructs you to change the Action for a button from Continue to Go to the next slide. With Captivate 5.5 for Windows, the default Action for buttons is now Go to the next slide (it was Continue in all older versions of Captivate). Since the Go to the next slide option should already be selected, you'll only need to verify that the option is selected.

Mac users: The lesson works as written in the book.

Windows users: Step 4 has you change the Action for the click box from Continue to Go to the next slide. As with buttons, in Captivate 5.5 the default Action for click boxes should now be Go to the next slide. You'll only need to verify that the option is, in fact, selected.

Mac users: The lesson works as written in the book.

Windows users: Working with a Text Entry Box (TEB). This is probably the biggest issue found so far. In step 5 you are instructed to click the Plus sign in the upper right of the Correct Entries dialog box and then type an entry. With Captivate 5.5, the Correct Entries dialog box does not appear by default so you cannot add any entries at all. If you are using Captivate 5.5, you will need to first select Validate User Input from the General group of the Properties panel. Then you will be able to add the entry as instructed on page 160.

Mac users: The lesson works as written in the book.
