Camtasia Studio 6: The Essentials
Important Note: We just heard from TechSmith, the makers of Camtasia. Due to a recent Windows Security Update (KB975560) some gif and jpeg images can no longer be added to the Camtasia Timeline.
The issue was fixed in the new Camtasia Studio 7. However, developers still using Camtasia Studio 6 will need to convert any problematic gif images to png before adding those images to projects.
During an activity in your book (beginning on page 40) you are instructed to import an image called logo.gif into a project. If you attempt to add the gif to the Timeline, you will likely receive an error message about a missing codec and you won’t be able to move forward. To get around the problem, we have replaced the gif with a duplicate png image. Please use the png image anywhere logo.gif is referenced in the book. (For instance, on page 43 you are instructed to drag the gif image to the PIP track... use the png instead.)
The Windows update has caused another problem with Camtasia. In addition to being unable to add gif images to the Timeline, any legacy projects that contained gifs (gifs that once happily went to the Timeline) will now likely hang if you attempt to preview the project. In our updated data files, we have replaced all instances of the gif image with png images… none of our projects should cause you any trouble.
